A brief introduction to the Twin Towers of Writing
At the confluence of the Dongjiang and Nanwen Rivers of Shanghu Dam, there is a magnificent viewing building. The local people built towers next to the viewing building to inspire them, and named it the 'Writing Pagoda'. Since Shanghu entered the Qing Dynasty, the achievement of imperial examinations was not as good as that of Song and Ming dynasties, and it was even insulated from Jinshi during Tongzhi. As a result, the local people raised money to build a Jushi Temple in the west of the county city and a pen tower in the east of the city.
The writing tower is built in the east and highest part of Shangcheng. Named "Wen Pen", the moral is to use this tower to bless Shangcheng scholars to achieve success. At the same time, a path under the Wen Pen Tower is named "Qingyun Road", which means "purple from the east and prosperity of cultural luck", so that scholars can go up along the "Qingyun Road". The tower is juxtaposed with the Wuhai Tower of Nanwen River and Wenqu Pagoda in the lower corner as the three pagodas of Shangcheng, and it is also one of the symbols of Shangcheng's history and culture. The tower is different from the writing tower in Shangcheng. Shangcheng's pen tower is a solid pen tower, while the partial pen tower's full name is Wen Pen Shengyun Tower, and it is a hollow level tower. The Wen Pagoda in Hequ was built during the Qing Dynasty, while the Wen Pagoda in Pianguan was built in the Ming Dynasty.
